Dr Raelene West is a Research Assistant at RMIT's Centre for Applied Social Research (CASR) within RMIT's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies.

Key activities

Assisted with formulation of disability workforce report 'MAKING IT WORK - A workforce guide for disability service providers' as a part of implementation of NDIS

Assisted with data collection (in-depth interviews) on study auditing the Victorian Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities

Completed evaluation report for the Financial Consumer Rights Council (FCRC) Vic 'Dignity and Debt – Older Persons in Financial Hardship'

Authored papers in disability field on theoretical areas such as human rights and health, marketisation, NDIS frameworks, individualised funding and emerging online uber-style service markets

Study Title: 'What do we mean by Support? The receipt of Disability Services and Compensation for People with a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) in Victoria'.
Study Abstract: This qualitative study examines the concept of support associated with receipt of disability services and compensation. The study examines support frameworks for people with a SCI from the state's three major disability support funders - the Department of Human Services, the Transport Accident Commission and the Victorian WorkCover Authority.

SCIP is network dedicated to maximizing the inclusion, job-retention and advancement of current and future professionals with SCI, and provides the opportunity to collaborate with others to discover and develop resources around career development and progression. The group is solely and permanently committed to meeting the complex and emerging concerns and needs of professionals living with SCI and to support all professionals regardless of their career field, title, employment status or degree of success they have had in their careers.
