Key activities

Sian Prior teaches Journalism 1 and Non Fiction 1 in the Professional Writing and Editing course. She also coordinates and teaches in the PWE Journalism 2 class.

Professional interests

  • Sian Prior is a member of the Media, Arts and Entertainment Alliance (MEAA), the Victorian Writers Centre, the Australian Education Union, the ArtsLaw Centre, the Copyright Agency Limited, the Australian Conservation Foundation, and is a member of the Opera Panel of the Victorian Green Room Awards Association.
  • Sian is the host of ‘Roosters and Feather Dusters’, the City of Stonnington’s business seminar series.
  • Sian is a professional journalist and media consultant; writing and/or broadcasting for media outlets including The Age, the Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian Way, The Big Issue, Eureka Street, Rolling Stone, Meanjin, ABC Radio National, 774 ABC Melbourne, Melbourne University Up Close, SBS Radio; consulting to local and state governments including the City of Melbourne, City of Stonnington, City of Port Phillip, and the Victorian Government; and to community organisations including the Australian Conservation Foundation, the Wilderness Society and 3MBS FM.
  • Sian is a guest lecturer at Melbourne University, Latrobe University and Deakin University, and runs writing workshops for organisations including the Northern Rivers Writers Centre, the Byron Bay Writers Festival and the Victorian Writers Centre.
  • Sian is also a professional musician, performing and/or recording with artists including Paul Kelly, Stardust Five, Tempo Perdido, Darryl Emerson, Natalya Wagner, the Victorian Trade Union Choir, Opera Sessions, More Than Opera and The Ten Sopranos. She has performed in the Port Fairy Spring Festival, the Castlemaine Festival and the Melbourne Writers Festival.

Availability

Sian works half time (Monday afternoons, Tuesday and Wednesdays) and is available for student consultations on Monday afternoons and Tuesday afternoons.
