James Purcell, Bachelor of Business (Marketing)
James has combined his entrepreneurial spirit with his passion for marketing and the RMIT brand to kick-start his career and soar from strength to strength.
In 2008 whilst studying at RMIT, James founded the Major Events Team (MET) via the RMIT Student Union. It was also around this time that he started to work with Red Bull Australia as a Student Brand Manager (SBM); coordinating the company’s student-focused promotional, sponsorship and event management activities across RMIT’s campuses.
In conjunction with organising student events on-campus James also ran his own business Purcell Promotions, from 2008-2012, a boutique events and marketing firm designed to help venues attract university students. “My passion is engaging students and student-age consumers with brands and events”. It was this passion which saw James move up through the ranks at Red Bull from SBM Mentor in 2010 coordinating a team of 11 SBM's at universities across Victoria and Tasmania, to Field Marketing Specialist in 2012 where he was responsible for managing two consumer marketing programs; the Student Brand Manager Program and Wings Team sampling program across the two states.
Despite his busy schedule James still found time to give back to RMIT, volunteering for the inaugural College of Business Alumni Committee earlier this year.
