National Dementia Essay Competition

No matter the field your studies fall in, you are invited to look beyond the scope of your studies and consider how your discipline can contribute to the future care and wellbeing of people living with dementia.

The competition

September is Dementia Awareness Month and one the ways of drawing awareness is through the National Dementia Essay competition.

Dementia Training Study Centres together with support from Alzheimer’s Australia and the Australian Journal of Dementia Care (AJDC) hopes to, through the essay competition, encourage students from a variety of disciplines to consider a career path in dementia care.

The competition is open to all second and third year undergraduate students enrolled in an Australian University.


Second and thirds will be awarded in their respective streams;

  • first prize $2000
  • second prize $1000
  • third prize $500

plus, the first 100 essay submissions will receive a one year subscription to the Australian Journal of Dementia Care.

There is also additional prize of $500 for the ELERA Essay Award in Dementia Care Nursing, given by anonymous donors.
