Asia@RMT – India
The Republic of India, located in South Asia is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, and with nearly 1.2 billion people, it is the second-most populous country in the world next to China. Economic reforms since 1991 have transformed it into one of the fastest growing economies; it has the fourth largest economy in terms of purchasing power. However, it continues to face pressing problems such as overpopulation, environmental degradation and extensive poverty.
Reflecting the rich landscape of the country, research into India is diverse, ranging from a project examining remittances sent by persons from the Indian Diaspora, to another looking at Indian influence on the Australian fashion industry.
