Research Programs Offered

Research activity within the College of is focused on assisting organisations to function more efficiently in a changing business environment. Through collaborative ventures, the College aims to produce research that has broad positive economic, social and environmental implications for business, industry and the broader community.

The following research programs are offered by RMIT Business:

Masters by Research

In the Masters by Research program offered by RMIT Business candidates undertake research in relevant fields of business or management. The research needs to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the field of study and must be undertaken competently to result in a discernible contribution in the field of study concerned. The Masters by Research program may be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis. The normal duration of the program is 2 years of full-time study or 4 years of part-time study.

How to Apply

Doctor of Philosophy

The Doctor of Philosophy program requires a more substantial and rigorous research project than the Master of Business by Research. The program may be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis. The normal minimum duration is three years of full-time study or six years of part-time study.

Frequently candidates will commence their research studies in the Master of Business by Research program and seek transfer to the Doctoral program after about 12 months of full-time study or its part time equivalent. In these circumstances, the period enrolled as a Masters candidate will be counted towards the Doctoral program.

Honours Program at RMIT Business

Through the Honours program established by RMIT Business, the College is able to provide high quality business education in which both businesses and individuals have flexibility to access areas of business education and research training directly linked to their specific needs. We are also committed to the principle of lifelong learning as the environment of today and tomorrow are one that is constantly changing making it important for those wishing to keep abreast continually upgrading and adding to their skill base. RMIT Business programs also emphasise the development of professional and practical skills that are often seen as lacking among business graduates.

Our Honours year program is a unique blend of academic research methods and industry based research problems.

Postgraduate programs by research
Research programs are offered at two levels: master and doctorate. If you already hold an Honours degree you may be able to enrol directly at the doctoral (PhD) level.
