Jan Nickmans, MBA 2013
Already a qualified engineer, Jan came to Australia to undertake his MBA, choosing the RMIT MBA program because of its hands on and ‘work integrated learning’ teaching style.
Jan became involved in many different activities at RMIT, volunteering and taking on student leadership roles through the MBA Student Association, Student’s in Free Enterprise and Business Alumni Committees. “The MBA is an opportunity to expand your horizons, acquire confidence, learn from others, and build a network of people who are like-minded. It offers a big picture view of the world and allows you to analyse opportunities from multiple perspectives”.
Upon finishing his Masters, Jan moved back to South Africa to pursue his career. Combining his background in industrial engineering with a wide range of professional experiences accumulated through internships, technical assignments, consulting and sales roles; Jan recently landed a role with Festo, a worldwide leading supplier of pneumatic and electrical automation technology. “Through Festo, I have the incredible opportunity to educate the young Africans. As a solutions engineer, I get to go into sub-Saharan Africa and help bring their education system to the global standard and beyond. Festo Didactic provides not just the learning systems which the students need now, but also for the skills required in 10-20 years from now”.
