Project Summary

RMIT has an established commitment to the recognition of the first Australians and their contribution to the culture of the Australian nation. The School of Health Sciences has developed in 2012, a course in Indigenous Health to be introduced across the university commencing semester 2. 2013.

This project aims to develop a complementary Indigenous elective course based around a WIL cultural experience in Indigenous health. The team will investigate, develop and pilot an elective WIL experience course for a small number of health students in an indigenous community. This experience will support RMIT health students in their cultural awareness and sensitivities to the first Australians. This project will develop an opportunity for students to work with these indigenous communities to achieve their community and national health care goals. This project is in line with the RMIT mission of “work ready” graduates who can positively contribute to meeting the health needs of all Australians.
