Opening Breakfast

Monday the 20th of March marks the first day of RMIT's much anticipated Sustainability Week!

Join us for an opening breakfast with other like-minded individuals. Special guests such as Pro-Vice Chancellor Paul Gough, The Sustainability Team, RMIT Student Union Sustainability Representative Adam Flemming and key researchers will be there to talk about current sustainability initiatives and RMIT’s plans for the future.

Ngarara Willim Cultural Experience

Meet Uncle Ian in the Indigenous Courtyard for an opportunity to immerse yourself in Indigenous culture and heritage. Uncle Ian will share stories form his culture, provide some context on the land our City Campus is built upon and invite attendees to participate in some interactive events incorporating dance and didgeridoo.

Indigenous Campus Tour

Meet Uncle Ian at the totem pole behind Building 202 for a tour of the campus including stories of the Scar Trees, bush medicine and bush food. This session is limited to 25 participants, ensure you have water with you and weather appropriate clothing.

When: 21st March 2017

Time: 9:30am onwards (approximately 1.5 hours)

Sustainability Victoria: TAKE2

Make sure you keep an eye out for Sustainability Victoria during the week who’ll be here talking about TAKE2 – Victoria’s climate change action campaign. Together we can fight climate change!

Bicycle Maintenance Workshop

Trained, professional bicycle mechanics will volunteer their time to take you through the basic maintenance and service requirements necessary to ensure your bike is reliable and safe. Part of the session will run through the most common checklists that you should perform, how to fix those small problems, and what to do if the problem is beyond your skill. There will be time available for you to ask questions or perhaps use your own bike for demonstration.

The mechanics who present this workshop are part of the ONYABIKE roll-in bike fixing workshop that happens every Tuesday 12:30-2pm (of Semester 1) in Bld51 Bike Hub Foyer where you can learn specifically how to fix the problems your bike has.

The idea is to empower you on how to feel comfortable troubleshooting basic bicycle problems.

If you want to know more about fixing your bike then this is the place for you.

Potential volunteer mechanics also most welcome.

Renewable Energy Park Tour

Meet Farzaneh Mahmoudi for a tour of RMIT’s renewable energy park, the facilities and lab, Farzaneh will give an overview of innovative projects being undertaken at RMIT in the renewable energy sector.

Film Screening - Catching the Sun

Urban Gardening in Small Spaces

Our passionate students from Greening RMIT will be hosting an open workshop on urban gardening; providing insight into what plants are best suited to Melbourne’s weird and wonderful climate!

The students will explain and demonstrate how to take care of these plants before inviting participants to plant out their own planter box. Afterwards you may even be lucky enough to take home some autumn vegetable seeds to use in your very own gardens.

Ethical Fashion Q & A

Our Brunswick Campus is home of the fashion students and researchers! Set aside some time after work to join RMIT Sustainability for a Q & A on Implementing Sustainable Practice into the Fashion Industry. RMIT’s own Ben Stranieri will be the crowds MC, panelists include:

Lunchtime Speaker Series

Throughout Sustainability Week a lunchtime speaker series will run, each day focusing on a different topic. This provides the opportunity for the broader RMIT community to hear more about sustainability research as well as a few special guests. Click on the topics to RSVP and find out more.

Student Trips and Tours

Throughout Sustainability Week a RMIT trips and tours will be running a number of outings for a small fee that students are encouraged to attend. These experiences will get you out and about to see sustainability in the broader community.

Including sustainable food and coffee, the Melbourne Aquarium and first hand encounters with Melbourne's iconic little penguins.
