Jan Duefelsiek, Study Abroad from Germany
After attending RMIT Open Day 4 years ago, Jan knew that he would be back to study in Melbourne.
“RMIT does everything to make your studies, your stay, your experience as worthwhile as possible!”
Home Institution: FH Dortmund
Home Degree/ Program: Photography
Global Program: Study Abroad, Semester 2 2014
Jan was really impressed by the photography course at RMIT, with great technology available to students and a high standard of teaching. He was amazed at the high professional standard teachers held students to, allowing students to use a $60,000 piece of equipment to do an assignment with. Jan also enjoyed that classes were relatively small, allowing him to be more productive and also form better relationships with teachers. He liked that people from the industry often came in and did the lecture, talking about their careers and their thoughts on the future of the industry.
The location of RMIT was a selling point for Jan, who describes Melbourne as the ‘creative capital of Australia,’ with great museums, theatres and galleries. While concentrating on his studies, Jan also loved exploring all Australia had to offer. He took part in RMIT Trips and Tours, where he saw the Great Ocean Road, wombats, whales, turtles and amazing scenery. His advice to other students considering an overseas experience; “doing a exchange or a study abroad semester is just the best decision you can make.”
