Ranked X documents

When this message appears at the top of search results, it means that the search engine found more than 500 documents, and only ranked the first 500.

Ranking is done to provide you with more relevant search results. Each search engine has a different method for ranking search results. Ranking is generally based on:

  • word location
    • where does the word appear on the page (title, headings and initial paragraphs)
  • word frequency
    • how often does the word appear on the page
    • how often does the word appear within the entire RMIT website

While the RMIT search engine ranks results automatically, you may also refine your search manually using RMIT advanced search.
