On Sunday 30 June 2013, seven RMIT WTF Taekwondo Club members were part of just under 300 competitors from around the state, competing in the STV Victorian Championships.

Held at Darebin Community Sports Stadium, the team amassed a total of eight medals, three gold, three silver, and two bronze.

Filled with enthusiasm and competitive spirit, all members were first-time representatives for RMIT WTF Taekwondo Club. Edwina Byrne and Lanny Lim both tied for bronze in the female yellow belt division for Poomsae (patterns). RMIT Student and Committee Member Mandy Bo, who is also studying gaming, came away with a silver medal.

Representing the yellow belts in the male division for Poomsae, Eric Sulendra won gold, and Committee Member Tim Miravalles followed up with a silver.

Committee Member Dengke Sha won gold in the blue belt division and our very own Vice President Jeremy Wu also obtained gold in the red belt division for Poomsae.

The club was represented in sparring again by Edwina Byrnes and Tim Miravalles, both winning silver medals under the coaching of Sabonim YongHwa Jung. A great effort after competing against opponents from heavier weight divisions.

The team was also supported on the day by other club members: Michael Telo, John Nguyen, Stefan Loizou and Benjamin Jay.

It was an exciting experience for the entire team who are now looking forward to the next competition which will be held in October.

RMIT WTF Taekwondo Club trains twice a week under Master Yun on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
