RMIT and SIEF continue scholarship partnership
SIEF scholarship recipient Xavier has his eye on a career in mapping.
In 2015, we will again be involved in the Science and Industry Endowment Fund (SIEF) Undergraduate Degree Scholarships Program.
The SIEF Scholarship provides $8000 per annum to a Science/ICT or Engineering undergraduate with an Indigenous background or from a rural or remote area with a low socio-economic background.
RMIT is one of a limited number of institutions included in the program, following an Australia-wide call from SIEF. Institutions are required to demonstrate a record of support for Indigenous, remote and rural students, as well as evidence of existing programs that promote science to these students. Academic and social monitoring, mentoring and intervention programs are also examined by SIEF. In this regard, SIEF recognises RMIT’s commitment to supporting students from Indigenous, remote and rural backgrounds through financial, academic and social activities.
This marks the second consecutive year in which RMIT will receive funding for the scholarship. RMIT's inaugural recipient was Xavier Prescott, a Bachelor of Applied Science (Geospatial) student who completed secondary studies in rural Victoria. Xavier plans to use the support provided by the scholarship to achieve his career ambitions in mapping.
SIEF has provided grants to science and scientists for over 85 years, and aims to assist Australian industry and community, while supporting Australia’s national objectives.
