In some instances students may be required or elect to source their own Work Integrated Learning (WIL) activity. Prior to the student undertaking the proposed activity it is critical to check it meets the learning objectives for WIL as well as any academic and non-academic requirements.
The Process Student-Sourced WIL Activity addresses these requirements as well as reducing many risks associated with student sourced activities.
Academic requirements require that the WIL activity meets the learning objectives of the course.
Non-academic requirements include ensuring that the activity meets a certain number of hours, supervision expectations and legislative expectations such as compliance with the Fair Work Act 2009.
Where the activity does not meet the requirements it may be necessary to assist the student in finding a suitable alternative or work with the employer to make the placement WIL compliant.
