Course Description

Seminar/electives in the Communication stream of the course will be offered each Semester. They will be specialist seminars covering areas that are the subject of focussed research. The seminar aims to develop an in depth understanding of a particular aspect of architectural communications. Students are required to cultivate a critical position with respect to the research and analysis produced during the course of the subject.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Each seminar covers different areas of specialist research in the area of architetural communications. Emphasis is each seminar is placed on both technical and conceptual skills and the ability to adopt a critical position in relation to the skills introduced in the seminar.

Learning is an interactive, participatory process involving both teacher and student and the success of a class depends on the levels of input from all the participants.

Students undertaking seminars that require the use of the Computer Laboratories on campus, will require current Log-In and may require After Hours Access cards, obtainable from Technical Services Unit, Level 7, Building 8.


Overview of Assessment

ASSESSMENT
Assessment will be based on assignments set in class and may include the submission or presentation of a final portfolio at the end of semester. Students should refer to individual seminar outlines and class notes for a description of specific assessment requirements.

Satisfies assessment criteria as set out in assignments to a high standard. Demonstration of an exceptionally clear understanding of subject matter and addresses all the specific aims with many to a high standard. High standard of technical, conceptual & presentation skills demonstrated in assignments. Evidence of creative insight and originality .

Distinction 70-79 DID
Satisfies assessment criteria as set out in assignments with several to a high standard. Strong grasp of subject matter and addresses the specific objectives, with several to a high standard. Good to high standard of technical, conceptual & presentation skills demonstrated in assignments. Evidence of creative and solid work

Credit 60-69 CRC
Satisfies assessment criteria as set out in assignments to a competent standard. Competent understanding of subject matter addresses the specific objectives, some reasonably well. Competent standard of technical, conceptual & presentation skills demonstrated in assignments. Evidence of solid work.

Pass 50-59 PAP
Satisfies assessment criteria as set out in assignments to a satisfactory standard only. Errors evident in the work. Satisfactory appreciation of subject matter and issues. Addresses the specific objectives; work generally lacking in depth and breadth. Satisfactory standard of technical, conceptual & presentation skills demonstrated in assignments. Often work of this grade demonstrates only basic comprehension or competency. Work of this grade may be poorly prepared and presented.


Fail 0-49 NNN
Work does not satisfy assessment criteria as set out in assignments. Work does not demonstrate an understanding of the techniques taught in the subject. Errors evident in the work. Evidence of lack of understanding of subject, minimal or inadequate comprehension and does not address all the objectives. Work is often inadequate in depth and breadth and sometimes incomplete or irrelevant; lack of care and thought in organising and structuring work.
