Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
You will be an RMIT academic staff member involved in some form of teaching and learning and employed in a capacity where you can create learning and assessment environments. Ideally you will have previously undertaken some study requiring reflection on your teaching practice and have some experience or understanding of the issues around applying technology in your teaching.
Course Description
In this course you will explore issues concerning the internationalising of learning and teaching practices. You will investigate internationalisation of curriculum, globalisation, cultural sensitivity and inclusivity and strategies for internationalising the curriculum in your professional practice.
This course will give you opportunities to engage with the academic literature as well as experience and apply a range of strategies. You will critically reflect on and evaluate your own learning and teaching approaches related to internationalisation of curriculum.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- identify and justify the strategies used for internationalising curriculum in the program and discipline you teach
- analyse and evaluate the extent to which a program you teach into follow best practice in internationalisation
- evaluate and apply concepts from the literature on internationalisation to improve accessibility and inclusivity in your teaching
- critically review and self-evaluate your teaching practices in international and intercultural educational contexts
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:’
- apply analytical decision making techniques to enhance student engagement and learning
- apply logical and critical thinking in resolving learning, teaching and supervisory issues in tertiary education contexts
- operate ethically and sensitively in international and intercultural educational contexts
- critically research, analyse and evaluate theoretical knowledge about approaches to learning responsive to diversity of learners
- communicate theoretical positions about teaching practice and effective student learning using educational discourses.
Overview of Learning Activities
You will have opportunities to learn from experience and to learn through critically reflective practice and self-evaluation.
This course will be offered in a blended delivery model. Learning activities will mainly be online readings and discussions, which will also involve some group work. There will also be face to face introductory and closing sessions. The closing session will provide an opportunity for you to present your teaching module developed as part of the assessment of this course.
Key concepts and their application will be explained and illustrated in the introductory session and online notes with opportunities to discuss their use in your teaching practice in online group discussions.

References, web resources and reading material are provided throughout the course.
Overview of Assessment
The assessment for this course is designed to help you reflect on your teaching practice specifically in relation to your experiences and understanding of issues around internationalisation of the curriculum.
Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
