Course Description
This is a research methods course designed to meet the needs of students within the communication design, fashion, textiles and related industries. The course will critically investigate a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies relevant within these areas of practice. The emphasis will be toward guided independent and group learning with students being encouraged to further explore and examine research methods and techniques as are relevant to their own research programs. Students will also enhance their ability in library information search and retrieval skills.

This course will provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to:
· Design a research program and present a research proposal.
· Critically evaluate a research project and select appropriate research methods to undertake the study.
· Critique research methodologies using quantitative and/or qualitative methods.
· Understand a range of paradigms underlying the research process.
Overview of Learning Activities
The planned learning experiences for the course are a combination of lectures and individual assignments and group projects. Appropriate specialist guest lecturers may be used and the course will be supported by an online research tutorial, which will both assist students in their assessment tasks, be a teaching tool and an ongoing reference guide.
The course will be delivered over three stages utilising online delivery, research and discussion.
