Course Description

This module develops an understanding of business in a global context by looking at international influences on organisations in Australia, cross-cultural skills and learning from cultures other than our own.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

  • Increased awareness of prejudices arising from own culture of origin.
  • Become skilled in cross-cultural conversations.
  • Develop a usable understanding of the global economic forces that impact upon the way cultures relate to each other.


Learning Objectives:

This module will further develop the ability to manage innovation and change within the specific context of the global economy and diverse cultures.

Expected learning outcomes:

  • A clear definition of ‘Culture’
  • An understanding of the role of perception in cultural issues
  • Awareness of specific cultural values
  • Ability to recognise cultural values within specific frameworks
  • Understanding of the role of intercultural communication and divergent capacities
  • Understanding of how organisations respond to the global marketplace
  • Ability to apply these concepts within personal life, professional practice and organisational experience
  • Ongoing personal growth in line with the ISM Program objectives and personal learning contracts
  • Ongoing development of communication and team skills within the learning community.


Overview of Learning Activities

Workshop:
The workshop will be interactive with some activities involving the whole learning community and others being conducted in small groups.

Learning Groups:
Although there will be some group assignments set during the Diploma year, learning groups will mainly focus on the support of each other with their research projects.
