Course Description
A specialist study of carpet manufacturing processes, including a section on computer aided manufacturing. It includes an introduction to carpet production; carpet fibres and yarns; treatment of carpet yams; speciality carpet manufacture; wilton; axminster; carpet tufting; tufted carpet styles and colouring tufted carpets.
Raw Materials:

Design:

Production Processes:
- Beaming
- Tufting: machine types, specifications, machine setting and operation, anomalies
- Weaving of carpets; types
- Finishing: back coating, shearing, specifications, anomalies
- CAM Computer Aided Manufacturing

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
For the students to gain knowledge and experience in:-
Tracking and recording a range of carpet types through the manufacturing process.
Comparing and evaluating the technical data collected at each stage of manufacture.
