You are required to have successfully completed the course ENVI1096 Resource Management 1.
Course Description
The course builds on Resource Management 1 and provides you an in-depth understanding of the latest issues and practice surrounding natural resource management. Explore the role of policy, science and technology, particularly the geospatial sciences, in measuring, analysing and assessing environmental issues. You will gain an understanding of the emerging applications being used in resource management and obtain a practical perspective through the use of class activities and geospatial, lab-based projects.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Upon successful completion of this course, you should be able to:
· Demonstrate knowledge of geospatial technologies and how they are used in resource management. In particular
o baseline measurements and geographic sampling design
o basic data analysis.
· Critically evaluate data and information commonly used in resource management.
· Answer scientific and management questions about how environmental data is collected, analysed and communicated and appreciate their influence on policy.
· Explain key human-technology-environment linkages and their implications and linkages for resource management.
· Monitor, evaluate and communicate resource information.
· Apply data capture techniques using remote sensing.
· Perform data analysis and communication using GIS.
This course contributes to the development of the following Program Learning Outcomes:
1.1 Describe the fundamental and applied scientific knowledge that underpins the geospatial sciences.
5.2 Demonstrate a clear understanding of professional expectations and ethical requirements.
Overview of Learning Activities
This course will involve you in a series of lectures, reinforced with appropriate A-V (slides and videos) as deemed necessary, and practical sessions focusing on current applications of geospatial technologies for natural resource management. Your active involvement in class discussion is encouraged whereby topics being dealt with in class can be openly and freely considered by all participants.
