Location Imaging Practice 101 and 102 (first year location) or equivalent.
Course Description
The course aims to further enhance the skills and professional requirements of commercial photographic practice on location.
You will be required to investigate and observe multiple locations. You will identify and propose appropriate visual narratives that will examine and interpret the design elements of your chosen locations. You will capture images that demonstrates technical control of digital workflows and lighting control with an emphasis on creativity and interpretation. You will present your work and justify the outcomes achieved. The assignments lead to self direction and independence.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course will lead you to:
- gain proficiency in location imaging
- a high degree of visual literacy
- technical competence and developed aesthetic sensibilities
- analysis of vocational business practices and global cultural, social and industry visual contexts.
- develop independent working skills
In completing this course you are expected:
- to gain a high proficiency in commercial photography on location in preparation for specialisation at a 3rd year level.
- to understand the variety of capture equipment available to you and its appropriate use
- to have developed technical control of electronic flash on location and digital workflows to compensate for locations where the subject brightness range is extreme
- to have developed proficient digital post-production workflows to achieve targeted communication outcomes
- direct and design images on location
Overview of Learning Activities
Weekly tutorials provide an arena for discussion and the acquisition of creative and technical skills and the practical application of technique and location lighting. You are expected to engage in personal research and assignment work during your ‘Non Contact Hours’.
- You will be required to research your assignments from appropriately sourced material conducive to your chosen style and designated outcome.
- Course content will be made available on Blackboard.
- You will produce three assignments over the course the semester.
- All images are to be from your chosen area of visual and photographic direction.
Overview of Learning Resources
You need to provide all of your own photographic equipment.
The Central Library has an extensive collection of material available for your research.
Overview of Assessment
All tutorials, workshops and location sessions should be attended. It allows lecturers to inform you of your progress and to
convey information relevant to the course.
Two progressive submissions will made during the semester and one final submission at the end of the semester.
Work must be presented personally.
