Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

This is a final stage course in the Master of Engineering (Quality Management). It is assumed that you will have completed all three of the Foundations courses (manu1425; manu1358; manu1474) and have completed or are completing the two second stage courses (manu1437; manu1365).


Course Description

The students carry out a substantial investigation of an industry problem. They are required to use a systematic and analytical approach that follows a structured research method. Note that this subject is the first stage of the project, preceeding Quality Project II (MANU 1475)


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Following this course students will be able to carry out an independent project, carry out independent research and write a research paper, correct in layout, style and use of references.



Overview of Learning Activities

Essentially self paced with occasional contact sessions with an academic supervisor. Students are expected to complete various activities.


Overview of Learning Resources

Guidelines for the conduct and report of projects will be provided. These describe the progress required at each stage.


Overview of Assessment

Assessment is primarily by examination of the report and the oral presentation. A proportion of the marks is allocated to satisfactory progress throughout the subject.
