Course Description

Leading and Managing Change, provides students with the opportunity to study the key concepts of change, continuity and transition within the context of the learning organisation. The study is based on the theoretical perspectives and assumptions underpinning current developments in change management. Particular emphasis is placed the capacity to analyse the often contradictory and complex environment as a basis for managing change.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

At the completion of this course students should be able to:
• Describe the phenomenon of change;
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key concepts of change, continuity, and transition;
• Provide evidence of an ability to think critically, strategically, and creatively on issues associated with leading and managing change;
• Reflect critically on the issues of change as they impact on the people involved with change;
• Analyse and critique the theoretical perspectives underpinning change management strategies
• Demonstrate an awareness of the major issues driving change in their sector of the education system

The Course involves wide reading of both theory and applied cases, exercises and discussion.

Students will be provided with readings electronically.

Each student is required to complete two (2) written assignments, one presentation and participation in class discussion.
