Course Description

This course is designed for the new student in entrepreneurship to understand the relationship between entrepreneurship and new ventures. The course examines how new ventures influence and are influenced by socio-economic environments and shows how not all new ventures are entrepreneurship while simultaneously not all entrepreneurship is new ventures. The course then focuses on the organisation and adopts a resource based view of the firm. Through this approach the student examines what it is an entrepreneur builds through new ventures and how the new venture resources reflect the strategy of the entrepreneur to capture and/or defend a social and/or market position. In parallel, the course considers the stories of both current day local entrepreneurs through class presentations and, current day international entrepreneurs who present their stories through electronic recordings, to show how entrepreneurs actually utilise the theory, either consciously or unconsciously, in creating and building new ventures.
