Course Description

The course provides a specialist study of the yarn manufacturing processes used, and the products produced, on a worsted and semi-worsted spinning line.

Topics covered include: introduction to raw materials; worsted process: combing: gilling; drawing; roving; spinning; twisting; winding; semi-worsted process: carding; gilling; spinning; twisting and winding.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

For the students to gain knowledge and experience in -

Tracking and recording a range of yarn types through the manufacturing process.

Comparing and contrasting the technical data collected at each point of manufacture to evaluate yarn changes.

The course is taught in a combination of practical/ laboratory classes and lectures and tutorials (to provide an understanding of the theoretical principles and concepts).
