Course Description

The course “Motor Vehicle and Society” is designed to make the student aware of the socio-economic aspects of motor vehicles. The course will deal with:
Understanding transport logistics, including alternative modes of transport
Recognition of advantages and disadvantages of motor vehicles
Estimation of the environmental impact of the manufacture of a vehicle and provide strategies for minimization
Design of basic safety systems for vehicles
Vehicle packaging and ergonomics
Alternative fuels for vehicles and environmental sustainability

This course will advance the students’ development of the following broad capabilities:

The primary objectives of the course are to provide students ample opportunities to familiarise themselves with various real-world engineering and social issues related to automobiles. The course “Motor Vehicle and Society” is designed to make the student aware of the socio-economic aspects of motor vehicles.


Overview of Learning Activities

Learning activities for this course include face-to-face lectures, tutorials and class presentations. During lectures students will learn about the general concepts, and in tutorial time they will work through specific problems about the impact of automobiles on social, economical and cultural affairs of humankind.
