Course Description
This is an Honours and Postgraduate level course.
This subject, available on-line, is designed for professionals who want to develop their skills and knowledge. The subject revolves around a consideration of the concept of ageing as it relates to all members of the community. It considers in detail the challenges faced by an older person with a disability. The subject provides an in depth examination of aging from a range of theoretical perspectives. It will consider the impact of ageing and will explore the supports and systems needed to provide quality services to older people with disabilities

• Understand theoretical perspectives of ageing
• Understand attitudes towards older people
• Understand directions of Australian policy for older people
• Understand concepts related to ageing
• Understand the impact of disability on the ageing process
• Be aware of appropriate services
• Understand support needs
• Understand challenges for carers
• Understand issues associated with ageing, grief, loss and death
Upon compleion of the learning activities students are expected to be able to;
Understand some of the issues that impact on people with a disability as they age
Understand and discuss these issues in relation to service provision

Students will be completing this subject ’on line’. The material ’on line’ has questions and tasks required for completion each week.

The students will be able to access course information and learning materials through the learning hub (also known as Online @ RMIT) and will be provided with reading lists or other sources of information. Students will also use the library resources and University computer facilities.
