The Business Enterprise 1
Course Description
Welcome to Business Enterprise 2. This course will help you build and launch your own entrepreneurial venture. It is expected (naturally) that there will be a lot of work to ’make it happen’. You will be required to use those elements of Business Enterprise 1, practise the enterprising mindset and employ the tools of innovation.
Business Enterprise 2 provides a combination of skills and prior learning in such areas as:
- The enterprising mindset;
- The tools of innovation;
- Accounting;
- Organisational Behaviour;
- Marketing;
- Strategy.
An ongoing challenge will be your ablility to cope with the ever-changing market place. How will you continue to be creative, identify new opportunities, manage risk (real and perceived), learn from your mistakes!, and be able to handle stress, tension, drama and chaos!!
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
One aim of this course is to reinforce the mindset and skillset of the entrepreneur. We will use the key concepts explored in Business Enterprise 1 which will add to your ability to cope with the challenges in today’s turbulent market place.
On completion of this course you will be able to:
1. develop a strategic marketing plan based on current research;
2. propose a ’marketing mix’ that will result in a strategic positioning strategy;
3. further develop your financial planning and reporting skills.
4. apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations
Overview of Learning Activities
Online learning environment
Business Enterprise 2 is based in an online environment, with learning materials and resources situated on the Learning Hub. The online course materials highlight the main areas of theory and are designed to support the textbook readings. You should ensure they read the entire chapter of the textbook as outlined in the online course material as well as read widely in regard to the many concepts discussed.
Five modules take you through a series of steps to create, identify, screen, strengthen and implement your ’idea’ to hopefully reach a successful outcome. You are required to work through each module and complete the tasks in each. These tasks will see you create a strategic plan focused on market outcomes.
Discussion board and Online activities
An online discussion board is available for you to reflect on certain activities throughout the course. The discussion board will enhance your learning and allow you to reflect on your journey into the market.
The facilitator will use the discussion board and the announcements section of Blackboard to encourage discussion of Module activities.
Overview of Learning Resources
In addition to accessing the recommended text you will be expected to explore the literature, including online databases, newspapers and journals, to learn about current issues facing entrepreneurs and discuss the issue through the discussion board. External database links are provided in the external links area of Blackboard for this purpose as well as for researching assessment items.
Overview of Assessment
Assessment tasks will include a Journal Report, Feasibility Screens a Work in Progress Report and a Strategic Marketing plan.
