Completion of a Graduate Diploma (Sonography) or equivalent.
Course Description
The student and research supervisors negotiate an individual learning strategy to develop an ultrasound related research project proposal appropriate for a minor thesis.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
By the end of this course, the student will:
• Select an ultrasound related research topic in collaboration with an RMIT academic supervisor (and an external research supervisor if required).
• Negotiate a learning strategy with the research supervisors, such as the arrangement of regular meetings including communication via emails, phone meetings etc. to review student progress and the production of a time-line for work to be completed by the end of semester.
• Produce documentation for submission to ethics committees if required for the proposed research project.
• Design and write a research project proposal.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will acquire a better understanding of the essential elements of planning and writing a research proposal.
Overview of Learning Activities
Students will be required to enter a learning contract and develop a research proposal with an RMIT academic supervisor at the start of the course. External research supervisors may also be enlisted to act as local mentors to assist students who intend to undertake research projects off-campus. Specific arrangements for on-going liaison and supervision throughout the course between the student and supervisors will be made at the time of enrolment.
Overview of Learning Resources
To access course materials the students will require a personal computer with Windows XP, MS Office and Netscape Web browser, or its equivalent. Students will also require internet access via an Internet Service Provider (ISP)
