Completion of a Graduate Diploma (Sonography) or equivalent.

Course Description

This course further develops research skills in the student following the completion of a research proposal in Research Project Planning. A learning strategy will be implemented to allow students to conduct a research project and completion of a minor thesis of approximately 10,000 words.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Upon successful completion of this course, you should be able to:

• Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate and review current literature 
• Demonstrate the ability to analyse and discuss research findings
• Present the findings of the research project in a thesis of approximately 10,000 words by the end of the semester.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will acquire the basic competencies of conducting a research project.

Overview of Learning Activities

Students will be required to enter a learning contract to conduct a research project with an RMIT academic supervisor at the start of the course. External research supervisors may also be enlisted to act as local mentors to assist students who undertake the research projects off-campus. Specific arrangements for on-going liaison and supervision throughout the project between the student and supervisors will be made when students enrol in Research Project Planning.

Overview of Learning Resources

To access course materials the students will require a personal computer with Windows XP, MS Office and Netscape Web browser, or its equivalent. Students will also require internet access via an Internet Service Provider (ISP)

Overview of Assessment

Examination of the thesis. To gain a pass in this course, the student must demonstrate they have achieved skills in scientific reasoning, project design, data collection, analysis and reporting of results.
