Course Description

This course explores current issues in management and leadership in government, not-for-profit and non-government organisations. Drawing on organisational theories and research, the course enables you to develop the conceptual frameworks and skills required to analyse organisational contexts, management practices and personal actions.

Workshops will focus on topics including managing in the current political climate, futures thinking and direction-setting, employee participation, organisational diagnostics, work process design and people management.
 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Apply your knowledge of people management theory in social policy and human services organisations
  • Apply strategic and futures thinking to the challenges and issues facing public and community sector organisations
  • Apply policies, procedures and techniques for developing inclusive workplaces

The course is based around a series of interactive workshops. Expert practitioners and guest lectures will be incorporated where relevant, as will the management experience and expertise of students.
