Course Description
This course provides the knowledge and the skills in modelling and simulation of chemical process systems aimed at designing control strategies currently applied in industry. It covers control design and process optimisation using advanced techniques such as cascade control, ratio control, multivariable control, feedforward control, and process identification. Matlab, Simulink and Toolboxes are the available software to perform modelling, simulation and control design. Real-time control is also an important part of this course and is done in HYSYS.

At the conclusion of this course you will be able to:
- Identify the main elements of advanced process control
- Move from the conventional feedback control schemes to more advanced techniques of process control
- Simulate advanced control systems of typical commercial operations
- Perform control optimisation using real-time simulation

- Identify the main limitations of applying conventional feedback techniques to control processes
- Implement advanced control systems to improve the controllability of process variables in typical commercial operations
- Be aware of the benefits of implementing advanced control techniques on product quality and safety
