Course Description
Reaction Engineering 2 applies and extends the basic concepts of reaction engineering by investigating in detail some selected industrial reactor situations. Topics are selected from isothermal gas-phase reactor with different product yields, fermentation, catalytic tubular reactor with heat transfer, catalysis, catalytic reactors and residence time distribution.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course extends the scenario from Reaction Engineering 1 of the types of problems that are encountered in chemical reaction engineering. It is intended that this course will prepare you to incorporate additional factors as required in industrial design situations such as may be encountered in the Design Project.
This course develops your competency at selecting, developing and applying fundamental equations for the design and operating characteristics of industrial chemical reactors.

Learning activities include:
- Participation in class contact periods which involve a combination of lecture / tutorial.
- Referring to the prescribed textbook and attached CD ROM.
- Accessing the internet, in particular the web site assciated with the textbook.
- Assignments involving reactor designs.
- Presentations by, and questions directed to, reactor specialists.
