Course Description

This is a methods course that focuses on the learning theories and practices for performing arts in the secondary school. Through developing a sound rationale for the teaching of Drama, students will learn about curriculum design and construct lessons appropriate to the learners’ needs. The current major teaching and learning issues relating to Drama will be reviewed. This course will focus on pedagogy, assessment and reporting practices.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course is designed to assist students to:
• Plan units of work using appropriate resources for the teaching of Drama.
• Develop skills in the effective teaching of Drama including student engagement and active participation.
• Adopt a critical stance in relation to their practice.
• Effectively assess and report on students’ learning in Drama.

Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
• Construct a course of study using support materials.
• Articulate assessment and reporting processes relevant Drama.
• Plan Drama activities that foster students’ ability to communicate through movement and acting.
• Adopt a reflective approach to the teaching of Drama.

• Understandings of the role of ICT in learning and implications for the classroom.
