Course Description
Ecologial Economics offers transdisciplinary approaches to environmental and economic sustainability. Thecourse explores this recently evolved area of studies and introduces students to the associated economic theories and ecological principles. Students are not expected to have studied economics nor ecology at tertiary level, but students who have will still find the course challenging. For instance many of the approaches of ecological economics include philosophical, psy chological, political and sociological perspectives that questiion the nature of economics. With reference to environmental policy and natural resource management, the course considers key concepts and methods, such as ’natural capital’, the Natural Step, and life cycle analysis. The relationships of environmental economics tecological economics will be part of the range of issues considered.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Students will develop capibilities related to:
. analysis of the influences on policy and society
. researching policy issues

. understanding of the development and role of ecological economics
. knowledge of the application of ecological economics
. appreciation of the components of ecological economics and how they can be used
