Course Description
This subject is a blend of theoretical and practical aspects of the school’s Health curriculum. It defines the meaning of human activity and well being and its inclusion in the school curriculum. Curriculum development will be studied along with appropriate unit planning, lesson planning, teaching approaches and strategies in relation to health, human activity and well being. Policies will be scrutinised and the implementation of commonly taught health and well being topics undertaken. These will include:
1. Environmental Health
2. Community health and well being.
3. Personal health
4. Sport and society.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
A student will be expected to be able to demonstrate :
• A basic knowledge and understanding of current Health documents and initiatives both State and National.
• Analyse and evaluate a wide range of resource materials.
Plan a unit of work and sequential lessons, showing appropriate techniques and teaching strategies.
• Apply the knowledge gained, to school and community projects.
Investigate the effect of school policies on selected topics.
• Demonstrate an understanding of health issues as they relate to individuals, age groups and diverse cultures.
• Demonstrate collegiate support through preparation, presentation and participation in all practical and theoretical sessions.

Lectures, Seminars, Independent study, Group visits, Small working groups, Tutorial Discussions Hurdle tasks, Internet research.

Students will be expected to continuously read current journal articles, media releases and reports that relate to the content and processes taught within the Prep – Yr 6 Health Curriculum.
Overview of Assessment
Assessment includes active participation in lectures and workshops as well as reflecting on health education issues and designing health education curriculum.
