Course Description
Fashion Design Studio 6 – (Exploratory) is the core course within the sixth semester of the Bachelor of Design (Fashion) within the Exploratory Design Specialisation. The course extends your research, analytical, evaluative and practical skills in relation to design development, processes and outcomes that are experimental and inventive. You will further develops the ability to evaluate and develop creative solutions, presentations and prototypes for specific design projects relative to exploratory processes appropriate to fashion. Emphasis is placed on originality within the fashion system.
The focus of the course is to align advanced creative skills and significant analysis with practical expertise to support original concepts and depth of research into proposed design opportunities.
Projects will require the application and extended development of design and fashion theory skills acquired in the course to date. This course will provide fundamental information that will be further developed in Fashion Design Studio courses in semesters 7 and 8.

You will develop:
• an understanding of experimental techniques in 3D design and pattern cutting processes
• advanced professional expertise in design presentation
• an in depth understanding of the design process through analysis and application of research
• conceptual and highly developed strategies to design and pattern cutting propositions
• analytical and research expertise applicable to design development and resolution
• an understanding of the broader context in which fashion ideas are situated
• effectively respond to internally and externally set design briefs
Overview of Learning Activities
Fashion Design Studio 6 (Exploratory) will provide you with a diverse range of learning experiences. These experiences will combine self-directed research, analysis, reflection, peer interaction and discussion with staff-led presentations. Seminars and studio workshop sessions conducted by staff and industry practitioners provide the platform for information sharing, analysis and evaluation of concepts.
Projects may be based on conceptual briefs or may be sponsored projects within creative industries.
You are expected to partake in extensive self directed design research and analysis of fashion specific to programmed contracts. You will be required to undertake thorough research into their area of interest using a diverse range of research methods. This information will then be critically evaluated

Technical reference books, trade publications and magazines will be recommended as required and as specified by lecturers for individual project areas.

Overview of Assessment
End of semester panel assessment –100%, of all projects and required work as detailed in project outlines for the semester
