Course Description

Fashion Design Studio 8 (Exploratory) builds on and extends your knowledge acquired in all areas undertaken in the program prior to year four. This course consolidates the knowledge and skills and assists exploring experimental and innovative concepts with the intent of realising original products. This is the core course within the eighth semester of the Bachelor of Design (Fashion). The course advances the your research, analytical, evaluative and practical skills in relation to design development, processes and outcomes. You will apply your ability to evaluate and develop creative solutions, presentations and prototypes for specific design projects. You will work on projects in a cross disciplinary environment, working in teams with other students from other design programs. Emphasis is placed on exploratory 2D and 3D design and the development of original ideas and viable concepts. You will gain experience in interacting with peers from other creative fields while applying their experience to their individual area of study.
This course provides the platform for depth of analysis, research and creativity for further postgraduate study.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

Overview of Learning Activities

Individual project based learning supported by tutorials, studio and workshop sessions. You will spend time within a cross disciplinary research environment. This course is mainly project based but will be supported by detailed documentation of cross disciplinary research process and analysis. 
You will be required to undertake thorough research into their area of interest using a diverse range of research methods. This information will then be critically evaluated

Overview of Assessment

Regular review of progress at tutorials and feedback during the semester.
Major Project
• Preparation work written assessment of project brief and its context
• Project brief objectives and methodology
• Final project presentation
The project will be reviewed as a final body of work developed according to individual contracts by a panel which includes an external practitioner in the area of design and feedback from the project manager. Due to the individual project base and personal contract some flexibility can be negotiated for assessment requirements.
Attendance
While a minimum attendance standard is not compulsory in this course attendance at tutorials and seminars will be necessary to meet the educational requirement of this course.
