The course is available to students from year two in design programs and compliments research and design within Design Studio workshops.


Course Description

Fashion Accessories is offered as an elective to students partaking in the suite of design programs offered under the award Bachelor of Design. The course provides an introduction to:

• Research and analysis of the relevance of accessories within the fashion system
• The design and technical skills in the area of millinery and head ornamentation as a complement to fashion outfits
• The design and technical skills in the area of costume jewellery using non-traditional techniques
• Research and design process related to fashion accessories
The course is available to students from year two in design programs and compliments research and design within Design Studio workshops.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

At the conclusion of this course you will be able to:
• generate and evaluate design ideas for given briefs relevant to fashion accessories
• create a more integrated fashion look with an understanding of the role of accessories
• experiment with a variety of materials and techniques relevant to fashion accessories
• apply relevant millinery and costume jewellery skills
• present fashion accessories work in a professional manner



Overview of Learning Activities

Fashion Accessories will provide students with a diverse range of learning experiences which combine self-directed research, analysis, reflection, peer interaction and discussion with staff-led presentations. Seminars and studio workshop sessions conducted by industry practitioners provide the platform for information sharing, analysis and evaluation of concepts. Students will be expected to participate in the studio workshops and produce a series of pieces for both millinery and costume jewellery. Students will also be required to research a specific area of fashion accessories and prepare a visual/written report.

Overview of Assessment

There will be three assessable components in this course. These will include a research project and a practical folio consisting of two components.
