Course Description

This course is a Work Integrated Learning course. It endeavours to establish a real-world working environment with real-world clients in the completion of actual projects. As new clients are sourced for each course the projects change depending on the client brief.

This course will enable you to further develop your understanding of multimedia production and to practice and refine conceptual, management and creative production skills acquired through prior study, in an applied manner to solve specific project requirements.

Work completed in this Elective provides an opportunity for you to create a self-initiated  or group project as an adjunct to your major Project in the third year of the Program. It offers the opportunity to further enhance your personal portfolio.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course you should be able to:

a. Manipulate media production devices for innovative and creative outcomes.

b. Successfully work within group and collaborative situations.

c. Understand professional methodology in creative practice.

d. Engage with and explore experimental practice.

e. Understand more advanced concepts of process development.




Overview of Learning Activities

You will primarily learn within a multimedia production studio environment modelled on the industry workplace. You be will referred  to examples of relevant published work or student examples from previous projects that may serve to inspire or illustrate solutions to production, design or communication problems.

You will respond to real-world client briefs that will require various outcomes; concept proposals, visual presentations, animatics etc. Final products will vary but have included:
• large format information graphics and interactive content for in-store touch-screens for a Bookshop
• animated and video content fro City library
• information animations/video for RMIT InfoCorner
• mobile phone content (animations)

Working a s a team you will facilitate all the roles from Studio manager, art director through to sound and programming. Each procured project will change the required skill base and activities necessary.

Advice and guidance will be available to you in a formal and informal basis throughout this course.


Overview of Learning Resources

Many of the resources you will be expected to use are computer-based or computer peripherals and these resources will be provided in the school’s computer laboratories.

You may need to use digital content acquisition tools such as cameras and sound recording equipment: these will be available for student-loan; you will organize the loan of such equipment from the school’s equipment store.

You should make uses of wider university resources such as its libraries, print and audio-visual collections and, if appropriate, the University’s Learning Skills Unit.

Some course components may be presented in lecture theatres. You will be advised of the time and lecture theatre location of such presentations.

You will be also expected to use your own creative and conceptual skills.


Overview of Assessment

As projects are determined by the brief set by the client assessment items will vary but details of assessment will be provided in class. Assessment will be calculated by multiple items/tasks including presentations and final work.
