BUIL1254 Management for Construction
Course Description
Effective leadership and team function is essential to the success of project outcomes and practice in construction management. This course will wil develop your knowledge of leadership theory. You will work in teams to build your team skills and collaborative capacity. Further you will develop your skills in reflective practice and your capacity to analyse what constitues effective team function and best practice in leadership. as an integral aspect of effective construction management.

At the completion of the course, you will have developed the skills and knowledge required for effective leadership and participation in teams. This includes capabilities for developing and maintaining leadership of a team, membership of a successful team and effective interpersonal skills within a construction context.
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
•Apply construction management leadership and teams concepts to analyse group and leadership performance
- Analyse team dynamics and group function
- Apply theoretical concepts, models and frameworks to case studies of actual projects
- Critcally reflect on management practices in the construction enviironment
Overview of Learning Activities
Learning will be through the workshops that include a lecture component, class activities and assessment. Face-to-face lectures will be the primary learning mechanism, with readings, discussions and activities being used to reinforce the materials presented in the lectures. Application of the knowledge and skills will occur through in-class tests and other assessment activities.
Overview of Learning Resources
Lecture slides will be available on Blackboard. The slides are not complete but will provide a simple overview of the material covered in the lecture segment of a seminar. You are expected to engage with the lecture content by adding notes and extra comments to these slides during the lecture. You will then apply, extend or complement the lecture material in the activities during the remainder of the workshop.
