Course Description
Integrated Media One is a required course for all second year Media students. The course develops competencies introduced in Networked Media and examines the use and role of time based media in the context of contemporary information networks.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Students are expected to learn:
- and understand a range of social network environments
- the application and use of multilinear time based media online
- strategies for resolving technical questions and problems in networked environments
- collaboration skills
- research skills
- introductory techniques of practice based research
- introductory techniques of discovery based learning
- roles, use, and possibilities of emerging networks
- creative critical thinking and its application to specific problems
These will be specifically realised as:
- writing and publishing online video and audio
- participating in online networks
- contributing to online networks
- producing research that is published online
Overview of Learning Activities
Teaching within Integrated Media One will be process based. There will be an emphasis on learning how to learn about project based research, and its application in the context of contemporary digital social networks. In this course an increasing emphasis will be placed on collaboration. This will be realised through the development of ‘small scale’ projects that are collaborative and public. Specific activities will be undertaken to develop collaborative skills.
Overview of Learning Resources
Blogs will be used by students. A variety of online resources will be provided for students via staff blogs and research portals. ’
Overview of Assessment
Assessment tasks undertaken in this course will be based on a combination of individual work and peer assessment. Assessable tasks will include an electronic portfolio of participation, a technical assignment, and a major online project.
