You should be able to demonstrate basic skills and knowledge in patternmaking.
Course Description
In this course you will learn practical and theoretical content pertaining to advanced apparel pattern design principles appropriate to apparel industry practise. Your knowledge and skill as a pattern technologist will be developed by advanced pattern making protocols that underpin the design and creation of unique garments suited to a range of materials and body types. You will be encouraged to investigate pattern development in 2 and 3 dimensional environments and to investigate and apply anthropometric profiles for mass market and individual apparel products.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
1. Problem solve effectively in a fashion and textiles enterprise.
2. Apply analytical decision making techniques in a fashion and textiles environment.
3. Identify, research and analyse emerging global issues and trends in the fashion and textiles industry.
4. Conceptualise, integrate and organise information in order to resolve complex issues related to fashion and textiles product development.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
1. Identify and analyse problems to resolve a range of preproduction pattern engineering issues.
2. Interpret, integrate and organise information required in designing and developing apparel.
3. Apply advanced practical pattern design skills appropriate for the fashion and apparel industry.
4. Apply sustainable advanced pattern making practises related to fashion and apparel design.
Overview of Learning Activities
Your learning activities will include:
• Anthropometric measurement for women and men.
• Pattern creation for range of fabrics.
• Experimental pattern development to support individual project areas.
• Develop a pattern archive for individual work.
