Course Description

OTED2095 THE MINOR RESEARCH PROJECT
The Minor Research Project/Thesis is the final piece of work, and is regarded as the culmination of the student’s learning within the program. The project will focus on an area or issue of creative arts therapy practice, and will require the student to produce a substantive and original* piece of research. The project may take one of three forms as per the Project Guidelines. Masters candidates will work closely with one supervisor, as approved by the Program Higher Degrees by Coursework Committee, for the duration of the project. Normally the supervisor/s will hold at least a Master degree and have experience and expertise in the field of study. Academic faculty and/or practitioners in the field are available to supervise the minor Research Project
*The use of the word ‘original’ denotes originality in terms of the student’s own work, not in the sense of ground-breaking work in the field.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

A Project is intended to be the original 1 work of the student carried out under the guidance and direction of a supervisor. The Project will include aspects of arts forms as these pertain to the research.
The Scope of the Research Project
The candidate may select one of the three forms:
Project 1 - a major creative arts production with related exegesis of 5000-7000 words. A project, such as a work of art in exhibition or an installation, a photographic collection, a drama, dance/movement, music, or reading performance, a film or video production, a musical score, or some type of model resulting from creative investigations, may be developed and presented for examination in a gallery or other appropriate venue. Such a production will form the centrepiece of the project.
Project 2 - a minor theoretical inquiry with a written submission of 7,000-10,000 words, in combination with a related arts production (as outlined above).
Project 3 - a theoretical investigation or literature review presented as a written project of 10,000-14,000 words, with (optional) accompanying relevant arts forms.
Note: The Student retains ownership of the arts products, that is, paintings, photographs, original music, film or video

Overview of Learning Activities

Candidates must submit a 300 word abstract of their project.
One copy of the durable visual record must be submitted to the CAT HDCC by the date of the examination accompanied by a ‘Project/Thesis Submission Form’. Two copies of the durable visual record shall become the property of RMIT, to be distributed to the Library and the supervisor’s department.
The format of all written work will be that of a standard academic thesis.

Overview of Learning Resources
