Course Description

This course guide outline applies to Textile Design Part 1A and Textile Design Part 1B.
The Textile design course will introduce you to the basic practical skills for designing and sampling fabrics. It is workshop based and covers the principal areas of printed, woven and knitted textile design. You will be taught key skills in preparing dyes, fabrics and yarns and shown how to print fabrics, prepare a loom for weaving and how to machine knit with yarn.
Classes are taught in the print, weave and knit workshops at the Brunswick campus and consist of short lectures and demonstrations, followed by individual discussions and group tutorials with the student group. Student groups rotate through the three workshop areas every 4 weeks.

• Apply the principles and practice of sustainability relevant to the production of textile materials.

Overview of Learning Activities

Classes are taught at the Brunswick campus and consist of lectures, demonstrations and tutorials followed by individual face to face and group tutorials with students. There is access to web based forecast information, library resources, computer labs colour printers, photocopiers, studios and workshops for completing project outcomes.
All students are required to undertake an OH&S induction session for this course.

A project sheet outlining assessment criteria, project requirements and project deadlines is given to each student at the start of the course.

Each student will undertake a 4-week project in Print, Knit and Weave workshops.
