This course guide outline applies to Textile Studio Part 2A and Textile Studio Part 2B.
This course follows on from Textile Studio 1B and consolidates key skills and capabilities associated with industry related outcomes and projects linked to constructed and surface pattern design in Textile Design 2.
This course is designed to develop your application of key skills to industry, using more advanced design techniques and studio design processes as used by textile design professionals.
Emphasis is placed on students refining their design research process; further development in the use of colour, themes, forecasting analysis and illustration styles. Presentation techniques for specific markets are introduced in this course. Drawing components are included in key projects to encourage development of original design concepts.
Certain projects within this course are team focused and individual project work can be taken through to Textile Design 2 as a starting point for producing printed or constructed fabrics.
You are encouraged to develop personal creativity in the areas of original design and themed research.

Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to;
• Extend your range of creative drawing styles.
• Develop your media skills through advanced illustration and drawing techniques.
• Identify appropriate colour palettes for specific markets and trend colour predictions.
• Demonstrate the production of range colourways and the matching and mixing of colour.
• Apply professional studio criteria when working on a client based project; knowledge of industry requirements, working in a team environment, designing for a particular client and a target market, appropriate terminology for specifications and working to a deadline.
• Enhance your textile design skills by increased use of pattern and repeat formats, producing finished artwork to industry production specifications.
• Respond to a design brief, quickly and efficiently sourcing design themes, accessing forecasting and trend information.
• Develop visual communication skills with layout and presentation of textile designs or design concepts, product boards for folio and exhibition use.
• Enhance your computer aided design skills using Photoshop and Illustrator software for storyboarding, product simulation and finished artwork for related merchandising and branding.
• Demonstrate increased professional presentation and communication; client, peer group and digital presentations.
Overview of Learning Activities
Classes are taught at the Brunswick campus and consist of lectures, demonstrations and tutorials followed by individual face to face and group tutorials with students. There is access to web based forecast information, library resources, computer labs colour printers, photocopiers, studios and workshops for completing project outcomes.
