Course Description
This is a core course that focuses on extending and consolidating students’ understanding of learning and teaching. In this course, students will further develop their teaching philosophy and plan for their transition into the profession by focusing on key skills in developing relationships, creating curriculum within a framework of inclusion, developing teaching and learning strategies, exploring classroom environments.
This course includes a work integrated leaning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community are integral to your experience.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course is designed to assist students to:
• Defend how classroom and curriculum design, pedagogy and interpersonal relationships impact on learning opportunities for all learners.
• Articulate how to foster relationships between students, teachers, parents and the community.
• Understand the legal and ethical responsibilities of professional practice.
• Apply a range of teaching and learning strategies, technologies, activities and resources.
• Work collaboratively with members of the profession in discussion of contemporary issues.
• Examine ways to contribute to the development of school communities.
Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
• Complete a plan to enhance ongoing professional development that is grounded in theory and practice.
• Articulate and practically communicate the relationship between interpersonal relationships, learning opportunities, pedagogy and classroom environments.
• Select and use a range of effective teaching and learning strategies to enhance learning of students.
• Demonstrate the ability to work ethically as part of team and form professional working relationships.
• Develop and articulate a teaching philosophy that consolidates knowledge and practices.

At the conclusion of this course, students will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following ICT capabilities:
• Understandings of the role of ICT in learning and implications for the classroom.
• Understandings of the social and ethical considerations in using ICT safely and responsibly in the classroom.
• Understandings of how ICT resources can be integrated in meaningful ways that take into account students existing and diverse technological skills and to produce engaging and challenging curriculum.

Students’ learning in this course will involve a range of activities including research, reflection, discussion, observation, responding to educational scenarios, lectures, workshops and on-line activities.

Assessment tasks are directly linked to the stated objectives and outcomes. Assessment in the course will be both theoretical and practical in nature.
