You should undertake COMM2309 Publishing Finance and Sales at the same time as this course as it contains areas of knowledge and skills which are implemented together in practice. COMM2309 is a co-requisite course.

Course Description

In this course you will be introduced to the principles and practices associated with editing texts in areas of specialist publishing, including fiction and non-fiction, educational, scholarly, scientific, and children’s and young adult. Presentations by leading industry experts will give you insights and practical strategies into editing different genres of publishing.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

 

  1. Describe and discuss aspects of specialist editing and proofreading tasks in the professional context.
  2. Apply specialist of editing skills to a diverse range of publishing genres.
  3. Identify and critically discuss the needs of all stakeholders within the editorial process and the relationship between the writer and editor.
  4. Evaluate and critique the editorial role in a diverse range of publishing genres.

  1. Develop broad industry-based knowledge and skills for application across the local and global publishing industry.
  2. Effectively and professionally communicate your ideas to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  3. Work collaboratively to plan and produce communication projects appropriate to the publishing environment.
  4. Critically reflect on your own work to demonstrate autonomy, good judgement and ethical responsibility.
     


 


Overview of Learning Activities

This course will take a blended approach to its delivery with learning activities that involve a range of activities, including lectures, tutorials, group discussion and activities, peer review and individual research. All sessions are face to face.
