Course Description
This course provides an overview of key trends and concepts that have informed the development of sound design and music in narrative film.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This is a university elective.
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
1) consider soundtrack options in a range of audio-visual productions;
2) become knowledgeable of the history of sound in the cinema;
3) become articulate in the communication of aural concepts and technical terminology in soundtrack production; &
4) consider aesthetic and technical ramifications of considering the soundtrack in pre-production and during production
Overview of Learning Activities
Learning activities will be based around the introduction of critical, theoretical and practical examples of cinema sound design and music through weekly screenings and discussion.
Overview of Learning Resources
Lectures should be enhanced by regular bibliographic, database and internet searches in relevant areas and all media, art & entertainment magazines and journals.

Assessment is as follows:
1) Class screening - feedback & reflection 30%
2) Self-directed Journal - 70%
