Course Description

The course focuses on conceptual, creative, design and communication skills through a self directed program together with individual feedback. You will observe and apply an advanced knowledge of digital video camera use, storyboard development, digital editing, sequential and non-sequential narrative and relevant aspects of pre and post-production.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

On completion of this course it is expected that you will have achieved the following capabilities:

  • Situate and apply your practice according to your chosen area in the global industry
  • A high degree of visual literacy, technical competence and developed aesthetic sensibilities, in order to produce moving images communicating an idea or concept within a defined time frame.
  • Be fully conversant with digital video hardware and editing software in order to develop a strong conceptual initiative.
  • A solid knowledge of the conceptual, technical, creative and communicational skills
  • Developed the skills required to communicate via the moving image
  • Apply high-level technical skills to work across a range of genres and conditions
  • Demonstrate leadership skills as a communicator in the cultural, social and industry context
     



Overview of Learning Activities

Individual tutorials provide an arena for the acquisition of creative and technical skills and the practical application of digital video technology. There will be 3 projects set for this course with the emphasis placed upon the use of sequential and/or non-sequential narrative in order to achieve successful communication. You are expected to engage in personal research as well as collaborate in teams towards the assignments. Extra course content and film library is available on the class server.


Overview of Learning Resources

Learning Resources will be made available in class, on Blackboard and via the course server so that you can upload your specified tasks on to Blackboard on the due dates.


Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the graduate attributes.
Assessments may include: critical observations, production of artifacts and reflective pieces.

All tutorials and workshops sessions should be attended to allow the lecturer to inform you of your progress and to convey information relevant to the course.

There will be three progressive team submissions during the semester. You are expected to present all submissions either personally or in a team on the due dates. (see submission dates in Assignment section – Blackboard.
